FISOCAT

History

Dr. Carlos Apesteguìa,
President FISOCAT 1999-2004

The Iberoamerican Federation of Catalysis Societies (FISOCAT) gathers the National Societies of Catalysis of the iberoamerican countries.

The Societies of Catalysis of many iberoamerican countries began in 1968 to organize every two years an Iberoamerican Symposium of Catalysis (SICAT), the first one being held in Madrid, Spain. In 1998 the XVI SICAT took place in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia. During this Symposium the heads of the National Societies decided to create FISOCAT, with the objective of "...continuing the joint activities performed till the present and stimulate all new multinational activities directed towards enhancing the role of Catalysis as a research and technology subject."

FISOCAT was formally constituted in 1999 on the basis of the Statutes approved by the General Assembly and its first authorities were elected. One of its objectives is the organization every two years the Iberoamerican Catalysis Congress, to be named CICAT, from then onwards.
