  • Prize of the National Academy of Engineering for Milton Agüero

    Milton Agüero was awarded in October 2021 with the "Eng. Isidoro Marín" award granted annually by the National Academy of Engineering of the Argentine Republic to outstanding graduates of engineering careers in Argentine universities. Milton is currently a PhD student in GICIC under the direction of Dr. Andrés Trasarti. For more information, click here

  • The Board of the National Council for Scientific and Technical Research (CONICET) awarded Dr. Carlos Apesteguía the honorary distinction of Superior Emeritus Researcher. It is the highest distinction of CONICET in recognition of academic background and contribution to the development of science in Argentina through the formation of new generations of scientists. The formal diploma delivery ceremony was held on November 19, 2020 at the Centro Cultural de la Ciencia, in Buenos Aires.

  • Thirteen members of GICIC participated at the X Argentine Congress on Chemical Engineering (CAIQ 2019), Santa Fe, Argentina, August 4-7, 2019. This Congress was organized in celebration of 100 years of Chemical Engineering in Argentina and Latin America. The GICIC´s members presented 6 Oral Lectures. Besides, GICIC was deeply involved in the Congress organization (Presidency of the Scientific Committee).

  • Mauricio Musso, from the Universidad de la República (UdelaR), Montevideo, Uruguay, stayed in GICIC on June/July 2019 in the framework of his PhD thesis in Chemistry at UdelaR.   • Leandro Duarte, from the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG), Brazil, Estadual Paulista, Brazil, stayed in GICIC on March/May 2019 in the framework of his PhD thesis in UFMG. The Leandro’s stay was funded by AUGM (Asociacion de Universidades del Grupo Montevideo) on the subject “Conversion of carboxylic acids toward light olefins”.

  • Prof. Carlos Apesteguía was appointed Emeritus Researcher by Resolution 2018-2621 (12/19/2018) of the Board of the National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET), Argentina. This distinction of Emeritus Researcher award is the highest CONICET honor for those who excelled in career, investigations and contributions to science in Argentina.

  • BREAKTHROUGH: DEVELOPMENT OF HEALTHY EDIBLE OILS

    Pablo Luggren, Verónica Diez, Cristian Ferretti and Isabel Di Cosimo, researchers of GICIC, developed healthy edible sunflower and soybean oils. By employing a novel catalytic glicerolysis process, they succeeded in partially converting triglycerides in diglycerides which helps to properly metabolise oils and fats. The glicerolysis process developed by the researchers of GICIC is protected by a Patent claim in Argentina since 2014.

  • Santiago Veiga, from the Universidad de la República, Montevideo, Uruguay, stays at the GICIC laboratories under the supervision of Dr. Carlos Apesteguía by a 2-month Doctoral appointment. He will characterize several Ni-based catalysts developed to promote the tri-reforming of CO2 for producing synthesis gas that is the subject of his ongoing PhD thesis at the School of Chemistry, Universidad de la República

  • The Argentine Association for the Progress of Sciences (AAPC, Asociación Argentina para el Progreso de la Ciencias) edits the journal Reseñas (ISSN 2314-3134) devoted to publish the biographies of distinguished argentinian scientists. In Volume 3, 2015, Reseñas published the biography of Dr. Carlos Apesteguía (“Una historia de trebejos y catálisis”, Reseñas, Vol 3 (1), 4-19, 2015). To read the biography (in spanish), click here.

  • Since May 2015, Dr. Issam Oueslati from Coimbra University (Portugal) stays at the GICIC laboratories under the supervision of Dr. Carlos Apesteguía by a 6-month Posdoctoral appointment in the framework of AMIDILA-Erasmus Mundus Program. Dr. Oueslati received his PhD degree from the University of Strasbourg, France. His current research interest include design of functional nanostructured molecular materials and nanoparticles.   • The XXIII Iberoamerican Congress on Catalysis took place in Santa Fe, from 2 to 7 of September 2012. The researchers of GICIC had a main role in the organization of this Congress as members of the Organizing and Scientific Committees as well as of the Iberoamerican School of Catalysis.   • The Iberoamerican Federation of Catalysis Societies gave the Scientific Career Award 2012 to Dr. Carlos Apesteguía.

     On Thursday, 15th March, the Executive Committee of the Iberoamerican Federation of Catalysis Societies (FISOCat) announced that Dr. Carlos Apesteguía was the recipient of the Scientific Career Award 2012. The FISOCat gathers the National Societies of Catalysis of the Iberoamerican countries which currently are the Catalysis Societies of Spain, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Uruguay, Mexico, Venezuela, Perú, Portugal, Cuba and Chile. Since 2006, and every two years, the Federation gave this Award that honors those researchers of long and recognized international trajectory.  This is the first time that a researcher from Argentina is the recipient of the Scientific Career Award administered by the FISOCat.

  •  Dr. Andrés Trasarti participated at the XVI Argentine Congress of Physicochemistry and Organic Chemistry, organized by the Argentine Society of Physicochemistry, in Salta, Argentina, from 18 to 21 May, 2009. Andrés delivered an oral presentation (see details in Presentations item).     
  • Prof. Carlos Apesteguía and Prof. Isabel Di Cosimo participated at the 6th World Congress on Catalysis by Acids and Bases (ABC6), Genova, Italy, May 10-14, 2009. They presented two lectures and two posters (see details in Presentations item). As a full Board Member, Dr. Apesteguía participated of the ABC Board Meeting that took place during the ABC6 Congress, on May 11th.   • Dr. Nicolás Bertero, Posdoctoral fellowship of CONICET, started in May 2009 a Posdoctoral stay for eight months in Trieste, Italy, at the Center of Excellence for Nanostructured Materials, Department of Chemical Sciences, University of Trieste, on the subject “Catalytic valorization of bioresources” under the supervision of Dr. Paolo Fornasiero. Nicolás received a fellowship of the International Centre for Science and High Technology, United Nations Industrial Development Organization (ICS-UNIDO), in the framework of the training activities organized by this organism.
  • Prof. Carlos Apesteguía participated at the Workshop on “Next Generation Biofuels and bio-based Chemicals” that took place in Trieste, Italy, from 21 to 23 April, 2009. This workshop was organized by the International Centre for Science and High Technology, United Nations Industrial Development Organization (ICS-UNIDO), as part of the activities of the international Programme “Biofuels and chemicals from bioresources”. Carlos delivered invited lectures on “Catalytic processing of glycerol to fuels and chemicals” and “Biofuels in Argentina”. More information on this workshop in http://www.ics.trieste.it

  • Dr. Andés Trasarti stayed in April 2009 at the Chemistry Institute of the Universidad Estatal de Campinas (UNICAMP), Brazil, under the supervision of Prof. Regina Buffon for training on the start up of metathesis reactions of functionalized olefins. In particular, he investigated the liquid-phase metathesis of fatty acid methyl esters.

  • Three new Doctoral Fellows join GICIC on April 1st 2009: María Nievas, Juan Zelin and Francisco Vanoy Villamil
  • Cristian Ferretti, Doctoral Fellow of CONICET, moved to the University of Rio Janeiro, Brazil, for a one-month stay with Prof. Donato Aranda, in the framework of the Doctoral Program in Technology of Chemical and Biochemical Processes. He also participated in a training program on Molecular Modeling with Prof. Walkimar Carneiro at the Institute of Chemistry of the Universidad Federal Fluminense, Rio de Janeiro
